If you follow Ball Corp., the Westminster packaging company had a split third quarter: a loss on the books, a beat on the adjusted numbers.
Revenue was $4.19 billion, up 24% from a year ago. Higher aluminum prices and volume were part of the reason. Analysts had expected $3.74 billion.
“Ball delivered another quarter of strong results, reflecting the power of our customer-focused strategy, disciplined execution and the ownership mindset embedded throughout our organization.”
Ron Lewis, Ball CEO, in a written statement
One-time charges included a $475 million noncash charge from Ball's buyout of its U.K. pension plan, plus charges tied to plant closures. Adjusted for one-time gains and costs, Ball earned $1.10 per share. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research had expected $1.06.
