Boulder County Public Health confirmed the first West Nile virus positive mosquitoes this season from a trap in Niwot East last week.
Officials say the virus can be spread by Culex mosquitoes and urge residents to take precautions — use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, limit outdoor time from dusk to dawn, and drain standing water — as mosquito numbers could increase later this season.
