About this event
The "Danza Azteca: Mexica History and Living Traditions in Colorado" program, presented by Grupo Huitzilopochtli and Azteca Arts Colorado, celebrates Native American Heritage Month by delving into the rich history and vibrant traditions of Mexica culture. Founded by Raul Chavez, Grupo Huitzilopochtli offers an inclusive environment for individuals of all ages to engage in ceremonial dance, music, and cultural teachings, fostering community responsibility and understanding. This immersive program will highlight the Indigenous roots of Mexica culture and its connections to Nahuatl-speaking peoples and the Uto-Aztecan language family, while also examining the evolution of traditions post-colonization. Attendees will experience the living art of danza through performances by professional dancers, who invite participation and interaction, showcasing that these traditions thrive as a contemporary cultural practice in Colorado, passed down through generations.
