Free Climbing Orientation: An introduction to climbing outdoors

Welcome to the Rope Wranglers Free Intro to Outdoor Climbing .

This weekly clinic is designed for anyone who wants to try real outdoor rock climbing in a welcoming, beginner-friendly setting.

Whether you are brand new to climbing, coming from the gym, new to Boulder, or just curious about getting outside, this is a simple way to learn the basics and experience climbing on real rock.

Each session takes place on Flagstaff Mountain, just above Boulder, Colorado. We will climb on 3 beginner-friendly top ropes with beautiful views of Boulder, the foothills, and the plains below. You will learn the foundations of outdoor climbing, including:

• Basic gear use

• How top-rope climbing works

• Climbing commands

• Belaying fundamentals

• Beginner movement skills

• Outdoor climbing etiquette

This is not a high-pressure performance day. It is an introduction. The goal is to help you feel comfortable, capable, and excited about climbing outside.

All ages 5+ and ability levels are welcome. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Your guide, Matt King, has over 15 years of climbing, coaching, and guiding experience. He has worked with complete beginners, youth climbers, adult climbers, and elite athletes, and started Rope Wranglers to help more people experience the joy, challenge, and adventure of outdoor climbing. Space is limited and registration is handled through the Rope Wranglers website.

You can also take the free online intro course before attending. It covers the same beginner foundations and will help you feel more prepared before you show up.

Weather: This clinic is meant to be fun and well-managed. If weather looks poor, I will cancel the session and notify participants at least 2 hours before the start time.
